Theatre Sports
After a highly successful start in 2010, King’s College is pleased to offer students the opportunity to join the King’s College Theatresports Programme in 2011.
Many of you will be familiar with the UKTV Show 'Whose Line is it Anyway?' where players compete in a series of games using the theatre skills of improvisation – in games such as 'Sound Effects', 'Dinner Party' and the musical favourite – 'Hoe-Down'. Theatresports is the 'live' theatre version of this (minus the 'out-takes'). Students are invited to participate in Theatresports at either one of our weekly sessions. In 2011, they will again be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3.45pm through to 4.45pm in the Lecture Theatre, and we especially welcome newcomers, of whatever year, from novices through to the very experienced. For the students who were involved last year, the consensus is that it is good to have a cultural activity that gives students scope to learn important life skills as well have enormous fun doing it. Students spend each session learning critical skills that make Theatresports successful – including how to improvise a story-line, the importance of working as a team and some of the technical aspects of each Theatresports game. The College is grateful for the oversight of the Auckland-wide TheatreSports Youth Programme (TYP), with whom we are affiliated, who provide both frequent tutoring and who organize inter-school competitions, including the regional Finals in September. TYP, is staffed by professional actors who are also involved in Theatresports shows themselves. All participating students, have the opportunity to be in the King’s Premier team which made the top six schools in 2010 and was nominated as ‘The Team to Watch’ by TYP. See Rev Walters in the Chapel for further details. |
